DENA ALI is a captain with the Raleigh (NC) Fire Department. She obtained her MPA from the University of North Carolina, Pembroke, where her research focused on firefighter suicide. She is a founding member of the Carolina Brotherhood and the founder and director of North Carolina Peer Support. She has taught her class on Understanding First Responder Suicide at FDIC, the Art of Firemanship Days, and the Portland Firemanship conference. While she lectures on mental health, she is still an aggressive firefighter who uses these speaking engagements as an opportunity to learn from some of the best instructors in the country!
